The 3 Biggest Myths about Hiring a Wedding Photographer

Today I’m sharing the 3 biggest myths about hiring a wedding photographer and debunking them! Don’t let these misconceptions derail you from finding the photographer of your dreams! Let’s dive right in, shall we.

1. All Photographers are the Same

I honestly can’t believe people actually believe this! The truth is that photographers are all different individuals with unique personalities and ideas. Some photographers, like me, offer over 15 years of wedding photography experience, while some are brand new. Photographers also have different shooting and editing styles. Even if a photographer falls under a certain category, such as “light and airy” “true color” “dark and moody”, they will still each still bring something different to your day. Do you want a photographer that will fit in with your fun and crazy wedding party? Do you prefer a photographer to give you prompts and direction on how to pose, what to do with your hands, etc.? Or is your ideal photographer more serious and gives less direction? This is why, aside from loving their photos, it’s important you also like them as individuals and trust them on your big day!

2. Photographers Can Fix Anything in Photoshop

Ya’ll let’s keep it real. This is not going to happen and I cringe whenever I hear someone say, “she’ll just fix it later” or “you can just photoshop that” Photoshop is a tool photographers can use to make major edits. However, most photographers don’t use photoshop to edit your entire wedding gallery with hundreds of photos. Most photographers will make small adjustments and tweaks, but don’t expect a miracle. As wedding photographers, our job is to capture your day authentically and beautifully and sometimes too much editing and photo manipulation can make it look fake. Trust that your photographer will make sure you get the best of the best images!

3. Wedding Photographers Only Work on the Wedding Day

This is a huge misconception. Some people will say we charge a lot of money for just one day but the truth is that we work a lot more than on the wedding day! We do tons of prep work leading up to the wedding day! Photographers don’t just show up on the big day unprepared. I personally communicate with my couples via email, zoom, text. I send questionnaires and help put together the timeline. Photographers also coordinate with your other vendors, like florist, coordinators, makeup artists, to ensure we’re all on the same page. We also will work on a shot list and plan those epic shots, we’ll even scout locations prior to the wedding day! Plus, after the wedding day, we save, cull, edit, and curate your final gallery. All of this takes hours and hours to do. We do this gladly to ensure that on your wedding day, everything runs smoothly and we get all the images you want!
